Fasting Mimicking Diet
(FMD)
Pitched right between Time Restricted Eating (TRE) and full fasting is a nutritional strategy called the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD). The benefits of FMD are touted to overlap significantly with traditional fasting, including improved insulin performance, better cholesterol and other lipid markers and reduction of unwanted weight, among other benefits.
FMD hasn’t gotten near the same traction as fasting or TRE, in part, perhaps, because it’s closely aligned with a company that distributes pre-made packages of the prescribed protocol. There are DIY strategies out there, but they may not rely as well on the research science.
For the curious, there’s a link below to a very helpful article by clinician and teacher Chris Kresser. If the concept of FMD intrigues you, book a conversation for us to explore how I can support you through the process.
