Stress (Management)

Stress represents perhaps the greatest misapplication of an evolved human physiological mechanism: We just weren’t evolved to cope with stress on a continuous basis. Our very sophisticated stress response is a cascade of high output biochemical reactions meant to help us survive sudden, short-term events.

Modern life has meant that for many, the short-term episodes have become chronic stress in varying degrees of intensity. The impact on the health and wellness of our minds and bodies can be very destructive.

But modern life isn’t going anywhere, so what can be done?

Fortunately, as with our updated conception of exercise, managing stress is, well, far less stressful than it used to be. And the best news is that most interventions are either free or cost very little.

From meditation to ‘forest bathing’ to hiking and walking and hundreds of other choices, the data are in: you can find a fun and meaningful way to deal with how stress impacts your life.
